Julaine

A collagen-stimulating injectable made from poly-L-lactic acid. Rather than adding instant volume, Julaine encourages your skin to build its own collagen, so firmness and lines improve gradually over the following months.

What it is

Not a filler. A collagen stimulator.

Julaine is an injectable made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible, biodegradable material with a long history of use in medicine. It is developed and manufactured in Sweden by Nordberg Medical, and is a CE-marked medical device.

Hyaluronic acid fillers add volume the moment they are placed. Julaine works differently: it prompts the skin to produce more of its own collagen, so any change builds slowly and quietly over the months after treatment. It suits people who would like firmer, better-supported skin without an obvious change to their features.

“My skin feels thinner and less firm than it used to.”

Collagen production slows with age, and skin gradually loses some of its structure and bounce. Julaine is designed to encourage new collagen in the treated area.

Loss of firmness
“The lines from my nose to my mouth are deepening.”

Julaine's CE-marked indication is the correction of shallow to deep nasolabial folds, softening them gradually as collagen builds.

Nasolabial folds
“I want to look refreshed, not different.”

Because the change develops over months, it tends to look like your own skin rather than something added.

Gradual, natural change
“I'm not sure whether I need filler or something else.”

Where volume has genuinely been lost, a hyaluronic acid filler may be the better answer. Your consultation looks at which approach, or combination, suits your face.

Choosing the right approach

How it works

Gradual by design.

Julaine is based on Nordberg Medical's LASYNPRO technology: fine PLLA microspheres that are reconstituted with sterile water before treatment and placed in the deeper layers of the skin.

Placed beneath the skin

The microspheres are injected with a fine needle or cannula into the areas agreed at your consultation.

Fibroblasts respond

The microspheres signal the skin's fibroblasts, the cells that make collagen, to increase production.

Collagen builds over time

New collagen forms gradually over the weeks and months after each session, supporting firmness and softening lines.

The PLLA is absorbed

PLLA is biodegradable. The body breaks it down naturally over time, while the collagen it helped to stimulate remains for a period.

What it can help with

Support where the skin has softened.

Nasolabial folds

Nose-to-mouth lines

The area Julaine is CE-marked for: gradually softening shallow to deep folds running from the nose to the corners of the mouth.

Cheeks

Midface support

Where the cheeks have lost some firmness, stimulating collagen can help the skin look better supported.

Lower face

Jawline and jowl area

Early softening along the lower face may benefit from improved skin firmness, assessed in the context of your whole face.

Skin quality

Firmness and texture

As collagen builds, skin can feel firmer and look smoother, with results that develop gradually.

Which area?

Decided at your consultation

Nothing is injected before your face is assessed as a whole. Whether Julaine suits you, which areas to treat and how many sessions you may need are agreed with you first.

Your journey, step by step

What to expect.

Every treatment begins as a conversation with Dr Yoo.
Step 01

Personalised 1:1 consultation

Your face, skin quality and medical history are assessed, and Dr Yoo explains whether Julaine is likely to suit you or whether another approach would serve you better. If you go ahead, your treatment plan and realistic expectations are agreed before anything is injected.

You commit to nothing at this stage
Step 02 · A course

Treatment sessions

Julaine is usually given as a short course, typically two to three sessions spaced a few weeks apart, although the number of sessions depends on your skin and goals. Most people find the injections well tolerated.

Your plan is agreed at consultation
Step 03 · The first days

Back to your day

Most people return to their usual routine soon after treatment. Some redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising at the injection sites is common and usually settles within a few days. Any early fullness is temporary and fades as the swelling settles.

Minimal downtime for most people
Weeks to months

Results develop gradually

Collagen builds slowly, so changes are usually noticed over several weeks, with the fuller effect typically seen around three months after a course is completed. Results vary from person to person.

Maintenance

How long it lasts

Results are long-lasting but not permanent. Published reports and product information describe results lasting a year or more in many people, depending on age, skin condition and lifestyle. Maintenance sessions are usually recommended to sustain them.

Aftercare

Looking after your skin.

Follow your massage advice

Advice on whether and how to massage the treated area varies with the areas treated, so follow the specific aftercare instructions you are given.

Swelling and bruising

Any swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising at the injection sites should settle within a few days.

Heat and sun

Avoid saunas, steam rooms, extreme temperatures and strong sun exposure for a few days after treatment.

Tell us about any concerns

Small bumps under the skin can occasionally develop after PLLA treatment. Contact the clinic if anything feels unusual, persists or worries you.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are gels that add volume as soon as they are injected. Julaine is a poly-L-lactic acid collagen stimulator: it encourages your skin to produce its own collagen, so the change is gradual rather than immediate. The two can have different roles, and Dr Yoo will advise which is appropriate for you.
