What is Onda Coolwaves®

Onda is a non-invasive contouring device developed by Italian medical technology company DEKA. Its patented Coolwaves® technology delivers controlled microwave energy into targeted tissue. The system uses two specialised handpieces with different depths of action, enabling the practitioner to personalise treatment according to the area being treated and the concern being addressed.
Unlike treatments that work primarily at the surface of the skin, Onda uses Coolwaves® microwave energy at 2.45 GHz to target deeper tissue while an integrated cooling system helps protect the skin above. Treatment can be tailored according to whether the primary concern is excess localised fat, visible cellulite or reduced skin firmness.
How Onda Coolwaves® works
Deep energy, cool skin.
Onda combines controlled microwave energy with integrated contact cooling to treat tissue beneath the surface while maintaining comfort at skin level.
Onda delivers microwave energy at a frequency of 2.45 GHz. The technology is designed to concentrate energy within subcutaneous tissue rather than simply heating the skin surface, making it particularly suited to localised contouring treatments.
Two dedicated handpieces allow treatment at different tissue depths. The Deep handpiece is designed primarily for localised fat, while the Shallow handpiece works more superficially and is used for concerns such as cellulite, skin tightening and selected submental treatments.
Controlled heating also acts within the connective tissue and dermis. This can encourage collagen contraction and subsequent collagen remodelling, helping the treated area appear firmer and smoother over time.
Onda's handpieces incorporate contact cooling to help protect the surface of the skin while energy is delivered deeper into the tissue. This contributes to a more comfortable treatment experience and helps minimise unnecessary surface heating.

Body contouring should not follow a one-size-fits-all protocol. At Dr Jinah Yoo, the treatment area, distribution of adipose tissue, degree of skin laxity and presence of cellulite are assessed before treatment. The appropriate Onda handpiece, treatment depth and course can then be selected according to the individual rather than applying the same protocol to every patient.

Onda can deliver controlled thermal energy to tissue involved in skin firmness, supporting collagen contraction and remodelling. It is most appropriate for mild-to-moderate laxity; the most suitable treatment will depend on the degree and location of looseness.
Yes. Cellulite is one of the principal indications for Onda Coolwaves®. Its energy acts within the fat and connective tissue associated with the characteristic uneven appearance of cellulite.
Onda's Shallow handpiece can be used for selected submental treatments beneath the chin. Suitability depends on the patient's anatomy and concerns and should be assessed before treatment.
We generally recommend a course of 3–5 sessions approximately one month apart, although this varies according to the area and treatment objective.
Onda is non-invasive and generally requires little to no downtime. Most people can return to their normal routine immediately, although temporary redness, warmth or sensitivity may occur.
Changes are progressive. Improvements in contour and firmness develop over the weeks following treatment as the treated tissue responds and collagen remodelling takes place. A course of sessions is usually recommended rather than assessing the final outcome after a single treatment.
