What are Skin Tags?

Skin tags are harmless growths that appear on the skin's surface, often resembling small, soft, skin-coloured bumps. They are composed of excess skin and connective tissue, sometimes containing blood vessels, which give them a slightly darker or flesh-toned appearance. While skin tags are commonly found in areas where the skin rubs together, such as the neck, underarms, eyelids, or groin, they can develop anywhere on the body.

Although skin tags are benign and pose no health risks, they can become irritated due to friction with clothing or jewellery, or simply for cosmetic reasons, individuals may choose to have them removed. Larger or medium-sized skin tags are more likely to cause discomfort, particularly in areas prone to frequent movement or chafing.

How We Treat Skin Tags at Dr Jinah Yoo Dermatology

Whether addressing a single skin tag or multiple skin tags, our treatments are tailored to meet your specific needs in a professional and supportive environment.

This advanced method uses controlled light energy to target and break down the tissue of the skin tag. Laser removal is suitable for smaller or superficial skin tags, as it offers a precise and minimally invasive approach with a reduced risk of scarring.

For skin tags that protrude from the surface of the skin, we use a specialised blade to carefully shave the tag away after numbing the area with local anaesthetic. To ensure minimal bleeding and promote quick healing, the base of the tag is treated with diathermy.

For larger or deeply rooted skin tags, we perform small surgical excision under local anaesthesia. This involves removing the skin tag along with a small margin of surrounding tissue to make sure it is completely removed. The wound is closed with sutures, and any resulting scar can be treated with laser therapy if required to minimise scarring.
Highly trained medical professionals carry out each procedure to guarantee a safe and comfortable experience. Regardless of the method, our goal is to deliver the best cosmetic outcome while maintaining the integrity of the surrounding skin.

I had a great experience here at Dr Jinah Yoo! I had the ‘brightening’ treatment after having too much sunburn on my summer vacation, and it really helped. The process was very enjoyable thanks to the skillful and gentle practitioner. I will come back in the future if I have any needs for skin improvements!
